Parliament Secretary Homero Acosta told a press conference that the 5th Ordinary Session of the 9th Legislature will have different characteristics, due to the need to prevent Covid-19 contagions.

It will be an unprecedented experience in its work, Acosta pointed out when referring to the presence of 225 lawmakers only at Havana’s Convention Center, while the rest of parliamentarians will participate through video conferences from their territories, and there will be a minimum number of guests.

Among the items on the agenda are the Liquidation of the 2019 State Budget, the Economic and Social Strategy to confront the world crisis caused the Covid-19 pandemic, and the Ratification of agreements and law decrees approved by the Council of State in the period between sessions.

In addition, four draft bills and opinions will be debated: the Law on Foreign Service, the Law on the Organization and Functioning of the Council of Ministers, the Law on the Revocation of Those Elected to the People’s Power Bodies, and the Law on the President and Vice President of the Republic.

Prior to the Parliament’s session, there will be two virtual working sessions at which all four draft bills will be submitted and the debate on them will be held on October 26.

On October 27, the lawmakers will learn about the fight against Covid-19 and the country’s economic situation, as well as the Ordering Task, which is related to the monetary and exchange duality, and the wage and price reform, among other aspects.
