According to Department Director Nguyen Thi Huong, the current control of the epidemiological situation and the policies of assistance implemented by the Government for the benefit of companies will allow the labor market to recover gradually from the most severe crisis over the last decade.

In addition to unemployment, more than 31.5 million Vietnamese citizens over 15 years of age have been affected economically by the pandemic, due to a reduction in either work hours or salaries. The most affected sectors were services, industry, construction, agriculture and forestry.

Huong called on the relevant agencies to deliver the multimillion-dollar aid package from the government in a timely and equitable manner, and to prioritize the most vulnerable sectors, including non-qualified workers, those from the informal economy and women.

In the July-September trimester, Vietnam’s labor force averaged 54.6 million workers, 1.4 million more than in the previous trimester, but 1.1 million fewer than in the same period in 2019.
