As reported by the spokesperson for the highest representative of the United Nations, Stéphane Dujarric, this will be the final report of a series that Guterres has released since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

These reports analyze the impacts of the health crisis on certain spheres and sectors of the population, such as women, the elderly, people with disabilities, migrants, among other vulnerable communities.

In addition to addressing these issues with data based on field studies, those reports include policy suggestions and strategies to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

On several occasions, the UN Secretary General has stressed that Covid-19 exposed and exacerbated the fragilities of societies around the world, although it is the most vulnerable who are most affected.

It also points out that it is a priority to respond urgently to help countries stop the impact of the pandemic and suppress the transmission of the new coronavirus.

The need for universal health coverage and greater social protection are recurring themes in several of the reports of the UN Secretary General

UN authorities also highlight the need to help governments and their peoples to safeguard development achievements, mitigate the socio-economic impacts of the pandemic and protect lives in emergency situations.

Likewise, they call on the different international partners to ensure that national, regional and global recovery efforts follow the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
