Low tourist flow to distinguish fourth quarter in Thailand

Bangkok, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) Thailand´s Tourism Council on Wednesday forecast the arrival of 50,000 foreign sightseers during the fourth quarter of the year, 99.5% less compared to the same period in 2019.

According to its president, Chairat Trirattanajarasporn, the revenue loss will also exceed 99%.

The council forecast the arrival of 6,740,000 foreign tourists in 2020, 83% less than previous year, after a record of 39,800,000 visitors in 2019, he said.

Prospects for next year remain uncertain, he added, though the agency forecast 20 million international holidaymakers in 2021.

Chairat Trirattanajarasporn estimated, however, that without a vaccine and dealing with a 14-day quarantine, just a few 1,000 vacationers could arrive in Thailand next year.

According to official sources, in January-July period the number of international visitors was 6,690,000, 71% down on the annual comparison, with a 70% cost.
