The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, issued a call once again to avoid ‘adding fuel to the fire’, after complaints made by Yerevan about the downing of an Armenian Su-25 close air support jet by a Turkish F-16 fighter, in an incident in which the pilot, Major Valeri Danelin, died.

Turkey and Azerbaijan rejected this version on Tuesday in separate communiqués. Baku clarified that it has enough forces to carry out the fighting in the area of the aforementioned mountainous enclave, without outside help.

Peskov indicated that the Russian military is following closely all actions unfolding in the line of confrontation. In addition, they record the statements of leaders of other nations at the highest level, he pointed out.

For his part, Azerbaijani President Iljam Aliyev said that his country considers Nagorno-Karabakh as part of its territory and is willing to fight for it until the integrity of its borders is restored. The war will end if Armenia withdraws its troops from that territory, he said.

In Baku, the Defense Ministry reported that Azerbaijan caused 2,300 casualties between dead and wounded among Armenian troops and the destruction of 130 armored vehicles since the start of the escalation of the conflict last Saturday, although the origins of the dispute date back to 1988.

On its side, the Armenian military command spoke of the elimination of 137 tanks, 72 drones, seven helicopters and a plane of the Azerbaijani armed forces.
