China promises fair, reasonable prices for vaccines against Covid-16

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin denied reports that the cost for those medications will be higher than those for similar products made in Europe and the United States.

The spokesman repeated China’s plans to contribute to the global availability of the vaccines, after their effectiveness and safety is proved to protect people from the respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Wang pointed out that China will prioritize the developing countries through different ways, including donations and non-reimbursable assistance.

China has 11 vaccines in different stages of clinical trials, four of which are about to complete the final research and have been administered to thousands of foreign service officials, soldiers in United Nations peacekeeping missions, and health and aviation employees, as part of an emergency program.

Weeks ago, local media reported that two inactivated vaccines will hit the market in December at less than 1,000 yuan (144 dollars) for two doses, while the Ad5-nCoV recombinant vaccine is the only one with a patent and might be marketed soon at 100 yuan (14.64 dollars) per injection.
