The eight states in the area, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives, account for 7,029,430 people infected and 111,191 deaths from SARS-CoV-2.
According to statistics from the Disaster Management Center of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, at least 5,859,000 patients who suffered from the disease have already been discharged in the region.
India stands out with the vast majority of Covid-19 cases and is also the country most affected by the pandemic in all of Asia and the second worldwide, after the United States.
India accumulates 6,225,763 infected, 97,497 deaths and 5,187,825 medical discharges.
Far from India’s high figures, Bangladesh is in the second place, with 362,043 infected, 5,219 deaths and 273,698 medical discharges, then Pakistan, with 312,263 infections, 6,479 deaths and 296,881 cured patients; Afghanistan, 39,254 infected, 1,458 dead and 32,746 discharges, Nepal, 76,258 infected, 491 deaths and 55,371 patients recovered; Maldives, 10,194 cases, 34 deaths and 9,037 people cured, Sri Lanka, 3,374 infected, 13 deaths and 3,230 discharges, and Bhutan, 281 cases, 219 medical discharges and no deaths from Covid-19.
