‘China is the largest developing country in the world, committed to peaceful, open, cooperative and common development,’ Xi Jinping said in a pre-recorded video statement to the annual gathering of world leaders.

We will never seek hegemony, expansion or influence. We have no intention to fight either the cold war or the hot one with any country, Xi Jinping remarked in a speech in which he called for narrowing differences and resolve disputes with others through dialogue and negotiation.

Xi Jinping also talked about the Covid-19 pandemic, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, whose first outbreak was registered in the eastern nation on December 2019.

According to Xi Jinping, the virus will be defeated and humanity will win this battle, for which people and their lives must be prioritized, and an effective response based on science must be given.

‘Facing the virus, we should enhance solidarity and get through this together. We should follow the guidance of science, give full play to the leading role of the World Health Organization,’ Xi said.

‘Any attempt of politicizing the issue or stigmatization must be rejected.’
