China plans measures against US individuals over Taiwan issue

Beijing, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) China said on Monday that it plans to take countermeasures against individuals from the United States in response to a visit to Taiwan by Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment Keith Krach.

Without elaborating about the actions, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said that it will be a legitimate reaction to Washington’s insistence in keeping official exchanges with Taipei authorities.

The spokesman warned the White House about the damages to relations and cooperation with that stance, and demanded to stop encouraging Taiwan’s separatist pretentions and to respect the communiqués on which bilateral ties are based.

He also highlighted China’s sovereignty over the island and its determination to protect its territorial integrity.

Krach visited Taipei on Saturday, so he was the second US high-level official who traveled there in less than one month.
