According to WHO, this figure will serve only for the first phase of vaccination and it is goal-oriented to all people who eventually need it.

During the briefing with the media, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reiterated that it is necessary to move heaven and earth to guarantee equitable access to diagnostics, treatments and drugs to fight SARS-CoV-2.

‘Almost 200 Covid-19 vaccines are currently in clinical and preclinical testing. The history of vaccine tells us that some will fail and others will succeed,’ he said.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus further noted that the fastest avenue to curb the pandemic and speed up the economic recovery is to ensure that some people are vaccinated in all countries, not all people in some countries.

WHO recently warned the Covid-19 vaccine will not be widely available before 2022.

WHO’s Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan warned she does not expect availability about potential Covid-19 vaccines for all people before two years, although the first risk groups could be vaccinated in mid-2021.
