Chile is on a downward trend, according to recent Covid-19 briefings

Santiago de Chile, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) Chile's health authorities reported on Monday just 12 deaths and 1,194 Covid-19 cases, which could be due to the lower attendance of people to consultations during the weekend holidays.

The Ministry of Health’s official briefing indicates that the death toll rose to 12,298 and the number of infected amounted to 447,468 until 21:000 local time on Sunday.

Of that total, there have been 421,111 recoveries from Covid-19, while there are 14,059 active cases, of which 915 are hospitalized in intensive care units, of which 684 are connected to mechanical ventilators and 123 in critical condition, according to medical diagnosis.

Meanwhile, given the concern of the likely peak in infections after the National Holidays held over the weekend, the Deputy Secretary of Health Paula Daza warned that ‘in ten more days’ the evolution of the impact that those celebrations will have on the Covid-19 situation will be seen.

During a meeting to assess the situation during the celebrations for the Independence Day, Daza pointed out that ‘we can see situations of a peak in cases effectively, (…) that is why, we have to be very cautious based on what we are seeing in the next days.’

She also explained that during the weekend, there were fewer consultations in the emergency services, so obviously those days the number of Covid-19 has decreased and we have to wait for the evolution in the next few days,’ possibly for Wednesday or Thursday.
