Since the creation of the United Nations, the world has changed a lot and the UN cannot be left behind, he said at the Assembly’s high-level event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the United Nations.

The UN must become more inclusive, he said, and called for the support of all member states to make it a more agile and effective organization.

According to Bozkir, no other global body has the legitimacy and convening power and impact of the UN.

At this 75th session of the General Assembly, the time has come to act, he stressed, and it is time to strengthen efforts and show unwavering political will to achieve the future we want and the UN we need.

Today, multilateralism is not an option, but a necessity because a more resilient and sustainable world is needed, the Turkish diplomat said.

When the founding fathers created this organization, they did so over the smoking rubble of World War II, seeking a center for harmonizing the actions of nations, he recalled.

Peace and security, development and human rights are equally important in this endeavor, for one cannot advance without the other, and that is what the UN has been trying to do for the past 75 years: drive progress, emphasized the incumbent.

Now begins the Decade for Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, which serves as a coherent project for a better world, he observed.
