Crimea complains at UN against Ukraine’s blocking of water supply

Moscow, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Crimea filed a complaint at the United Nations on Monday to denounce the latter's blocking of water supply to the peninsula, local television reported.

Crimea received 85% of drinking water through a canal built from the Dnieper River, but after a referendum to become independent from Ukraine and return to Russian jurisdiction in March 2014, Kiev suspended the water supply totally.

We sent a message to the UN Special Rapporteur in charge of dealing with the influence of sanctions on human rights, and requested an investigation into the blocking of drinking water imposed by Ukraine, said Alexander Molojov, head of the working group for international law affairs at the representation of the Russian president in Crimea.

He pointed out that the board of directors of the Fishing Complex in Krasnpoperekovsk will file a lawsuit at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
