Zhang Jun, permanent representative of the country to that body, recalled that Washington lacks a voice on the issue because in 2018 it voluntarily withdrew from the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (Jcpoa), sealed in 2015 and seen as a diplomatic landmark.

He also mentioned a letter from 13 members of the UN Security Council that considers without legal, political or practical effect any decision or action promoted by the United States in this regard.

‘China is committed to upholding the effectiveness of the Jcpoa and the authority of the Security Council resolution and will make unremitting efforts towards the political solution of the Iranian nuclear issue,’ the diplomat stressed.

On Saturday the United States announced the reimposition of sanctions against Iran, although the Security Council vetoed in a vote extending the arms embargo imposed on that country, which ends on October 18.

Punitive measures include restrictions on participation in activities related to uranium enrichment, a ban on developing ballistic missiles, and on the transfer of nuclear or missile technology.
