Irish authorities support Nobel Peace Prize for Cuban doctors

Dublin, Dec 19 (Prensa Latina) The Council of Cork, in southern Ireland, will nominate Cuba's Henry Reeve Medical Contingent for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize, as an acknowledgement of their internationalist work during the Covid-19 pandemic, diplomatic sources said on Saturday.

According to the Cuban Embassy in Ireland, the City Council lauded the work done by more than 50 brigades of Cuban experts in situations of emergency, which were sent to dozens of States to contain the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.

It also acknowledged the contingent’s role in fighting Ebola in Africa and after natural disasters in several countries.

The Council highlighted Cuba’s solidarity with the neediest, despite the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean island for more than six decades.

In addition to Cork authorities, 46 parliamentarians, groups and political organizations in Ireland also support the Cuban doctors’ candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize.
