African Bank works to boost regional development

Abidjan, Aug 29 (Prensa Latina) The newly re-elected president of the African Development Bank (ADB), Akimwumi Adesina, promised that during his five-year term he will work to boost Africa's development, reported the press.

After thanking the trust placed and the support of shareholders, the highest representative of that entity, which is made up of 54 regional member countries and 27 outside the area, highlighted the intention to bolster further progress in the region, through innovative programs and the contribution of financial funds.

As it was known, among the most recent achievements of the ADB Board of Directors are the approval of a fund amounting to 10 billion dollars for the countries of the continent to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition, with the aid of the regional financial center in the last five years, 335 million Africans achieved improvements in their quality of life, according to statistics from the banking institution.

In a brief, the ADB detailed that, in that period, 18 million human beings accessed electricity service and 141 million community members benefited from improved agricultural technologies for food security.

Meanwhile, among other progress, 101 million people obtained benefits from the modernization of transportation networks, while 60 million people had access to drinking water and basic sanitation, the source set out.
