Bolivian justice rejects freedom appeal for Añez’s former minister

La Paz, Mar 22 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian justice rejected the freedom appeal filed by the former Minister of the Presidency of the de facto regime, Yerko Nuñez, local media reported on Monday.

The proposal from the attorney for the former official, a member of Jeanine Añez’s office, aimed at annulling the arrest warrant against him due to the coup case, in which he is being accused of alleged crimes of terrorism, conspiracy and sedition, according to El Deber daily.

At a hearing at the El Alto Fourth Criminal Instruction Court, Judge Angel Mendoza argued that the defense team of the former minister did not resort, as required by the procedure, to an investigating judge in charge of the case first, ABI news agency added.

Nuñez was hiding from justice after Añez and former Ministers Alvaro Coimbra (Justice) and Rodrigo Guzman (Energy) were arrested nine days ago as a result of an investigation in progress since late 2020.

Bolivia is undergoing a process of reconstruction and defense of its democratic institutions and is trying to determine who are responsible for more than 36 deaths in Sacaba (Cochabamba) and Senkata (El Alto, La Paz) during the November 2019 social clashes.
