UN proposes to strengthen talks in Colombia to overcome crisis

Bogota, May 30 (Prensa Latina) UN Secretary-General´s Special Representative in Colombia Carlos Ruiz Massieu has called to guarantee talks to solve crisis in this South American country.

Ruiz Massieu said he followed Colombia´s latest incidents closely and with great concern.

‘After a month protests and social mobilization, we continue witnessing citizen clamor. Serious incidents in Cali and in other cities and departments show the need to guarantee talks as a pivotal instrument to solve conflicts,’ Massieu stressed.

In this regard, Massieu called on all players to prevent and stamp violence out as well as to do everything possible to fall tensions off and avoid escalation.

‘Strengthening a stable and long-lasting peace in the country is my greatest wish and, I´m pretty sure that of all Colombians,’ Ruiz Massieu said and assured the United Nations will continue being available to support the peaceful solution and agreement paths.
