Vietnam’s exports increase in first semester of 2021

Hanoi, Jul 3 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam's exports reported a year-on-year growth of 28.4 percent in the first half of 2021, according to the General Statistics Office.

From January to June, the value of Vietnam’s exports amounted to 157.63 billion dollars, more than a quarter of which were sent to the United States.

The other major trading partners of Vietnam were China, the European Union (EU), members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), South Korea and Japan, in that order.

Meanwhile, 22 groups of products had sales of more than one billion dollars and contributed more than four-fifths of revenues.

Heavy industry and mining, the light industry and crafts, and agriculture, forestry and aquaculture stood out.

In the semester, Vietnam imported 159.1 billion dollars (36 percent more than the same period last year), which generated a deficit of 1.47 billion dollars. In contrast, the trade balance showed a surplus of 5.86 billion dollars in 2020.

The bulk of purchases was in machinery, means of transportation, materials and consumer goods.

The main sellers to Vietnam were China (almost one third of the total), South Korea, ASEAN, Japan, the EU and the United States.
