Syrian president congratulates Iranian President-elect

Damascus, Jul 6 (Prensa Latina) President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday congratulated Iran's President-elect Ebrahim Raisi for his victory in the presidential elections recently held in that country.

In a telephone conversation, Al-Assad wished Raisi success in the performance of his presidential duties and in the mission of leading his nation towards further progress, as well as continuing the achievements reached in all fields, the Syrian presidency informed in a press release posted on Telegram.

The document indicated that both heads of State expressed their enthusiasm and determination to continue working to promote bilateral cooperation in all spheres.

They also agreed to continue consultations and coordination on issues of common interest.

Ebrahim Raisi was elected president on June 18 after obtaining almost 18 million votes, or about 62 percent of the votes cast, while Syrian President Bashar al-Assad won the May 26 elections with more than 95 percent of the votes cast by more than 14 million Syrians.
