At his daily morning press conference, the president explained that the suggested plan to a high-level US delegation aims to seek mechanisms for complementation and collaboration, but respecting each nation’s sovereignty.

This was, he said, the main topic discussed with the US delegation on Tuesday night, and there will be a macro economic meeting in order to reach a general agreement.

The talks will include economic aspects, regional development, support for Central America, as well as social programs, the migration issue, security, and other topics.

Lopez Obrador reiterated that an appeal is being made to open the common border, something on which both parties agree, but this is prevented by the increase in Covid-19 cases of the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

The Mexican head of State noted that a meeting will be held in the United States very soon, but the date has not been set yet, and confirmed that US President Joe Biden will receive an invitation to visit Mexico, and this will possibly materialize.

The US delegation was headed by Biden’s National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, and National Security Council Western Hemisphere Director Juan Gonzalez, and six other officials.
