‘We made a call to establish Indian investments in Syria, increase trade and open new prospects for economic collaboration,’ reported a press release issued by Syrian merchants and businessmen after their meeting with the head of the diplomatic mission.

According to the statement, there is a desire to formulate new economic agreements that facilitate the procedures and encourage investments, in addition to expanding the participation of fairs to bring Syrian products to the Indian market.

Unfortunately, the blockade makes such cooperation difficult while Indian companies are still watching Syria very cautiously due to extraterritorial sanctions, Singh Kanyal said.

The ambassador explained that India is one of the BRICS countries and any economic cooperation with this country paves the way for a similar action with the rest of the countries in this group.

In turn, the ambassador welcomed the invitation of Syrian merchants to cooperation and investment in this nation, and expressed his admiration for the continuation of work and production despite the weight of sanctions and the difficult economic reality.

‘We have a great opportunity to increase imports from Syria and increase the volume of trade between the two countries,’ he concluded.
