Senator criticizes lack of veracity over missing persons in Colombia

Bogota, Nov 28 (Prensa Latina) Senator for the Alternative Indigenous and Social Movement, Fernando Valencia, denounced on Saturday the lack of veracity in data on disappeared persons of the National Center of Historical Memory of Colombia.

The Center, by ‘bad filter’, violates and re-victimizes more than four thousand families of the disappeared who are waiting for recognition and action by the institutions, Valencia wrote in his Twitter account.

Yesterday, the Organization against Forced Disappearance questioned this institution and the Prosecutor’s Office for reducing the statistics of the forced disappeared in the country with the justification of not knowing the exact dates of the events.

A communiqué from the memory center indicated that, in order to elaborate a report from last August 20, it did not include 4,262 victims as they were -it claims- ‘outside the range’, of which 4,128 does not specifying the date of the event.

According to figures from the National Center of Historical Memory, in Colombia there is a register of 83,000 victims of forced disappearance, while social and human rights organizations warn that number of unregistered cases may be between 90 and 120,000.
