In announcing the cessation of their activities, the National Federation of Health Workers (Fenats) pointed out that the mobilization is not only aimed at recognizing their rights but also at increasing the reduced budget for 2021, since 80 percent of Chileans receive care through the public system.

In the previous weeks, Fenats carried out two partial strikes to pressure the fulfillment of the commitments agreed upon with the Health Ministry, which have remained unanswered, and asked the citizens to understand and support the inconveniences that the strike may cause.

Patricia Valderas, president of Fenats, lamented the lack of willingness of the authorities to reach agreements, and pointed out that ‘without concrete answers we have nothing left but to declare war, until the working conditions of our workers are improved and the per capita budget is increased for next year.

In statements to the press, he pointed out that the Health Minister, Enrique Paris, ‘is a doctor and he knows that what they are offering is not enough, and even less to deal with the number of sick people in Covid-19, which will surely be from March.

Fenats repeatedly denounced the precarious situation of public health in the country, which has been aggravated by the health crisis caused by Covid-19 and has also called attention to the lack of enough inputs and resources to safeguard the lives of the officials.
