China closes Tianjin market after finding samples of SARS-CoV-2

Beijing, Nov 12 (Prensa Latina) The municipality of Tianjin, north China, today suspended operations of a market after finding samples of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in a warehouse of frozen food acquired abroad.

This is the second consecutive day that Tianjin reports the discovery of the pathogen in a market, since yesterday it was detected on the surface of a package of imported sole.

Preliminary data from an investigation suggest that in both cases the strain of SARS-CoV-2 is the European one, the same one previously discovered in outbreaks in neighboring Beijing and Hebei.

In recent months, China linked pockets of the coronavirus that have emerged in different parts of its territory to imported food that is moved cold.

For that reason, its authorities on Monday tightened the supervision and disinfection of these items, which can only go on public sale with a certificate.
