Nicaraguan Army helps to mitigate hurricane damages

Managua, Nov 5 (Prensa Latina) The Nicaraguan Army reported that nearly 11,000 troops are mobilized for the Anti-Disaster Plan, which was launched in response to the scourge of the powerful Eta hurricane, which today continues to move away from the national territory.

The information provided by Colonel Rogelio Flores, Chief of the General Staff of the Civil Defense, detailed that nine thousand troops remain in areas where the green and yellow alert was decreed, and between 1,500 and 2,000 in the area of impact, the northeast corner of the Central American country.

During the subsequent stage of Eta’s impact (Tuesday), the military institution was involved in the evacuation of more than 700 families between the municipalities of Siuna, Puerto Cabezas and the outskirts of Managua, while transporting humanitarian supplies from Bilwi (Puerto Cabezas) to Waspan, in the Northern Caribbean Autonomous Region.

The Nicaraguan Army announced the availability of six air assets, 30 Naval Force surface units and half a dozen engineering machine modules ready to asset the damages, explore and support recovery efforts.
