As reported by the National Office for the Control of the Rational Use of Energy (Onure), starting at 01:00 local time this Sunday, people delayed clocks one hour to reestablish normal time in the national territory.

Onure warned that the change implies an increase in electricity consumption in peak hours, due to the coincidence of greater need for artificial light and cooking of food between five in the afternoon and nine at night.

For this reason, the Onure urged to promote saving as a life practice in homes and work centers, with the measures of turning on only the necessary lights and doing household activities outside peak hours (11:00–13:00 / 18:00–22:00 hours).

Other suggestions to reduce electricity consumption are to gather as many pieces of ironing or washing as possible, disconnect household appliances that are not being used, and clean lamps and bulbs.

As every year, in the month of March, the largest of the Antilles implements the so-called summer schedule, in order to take advantage of natural light and reduce energy consumption.
